In September 1917, a miner from Austria-Hungary who was employed by Groom Mining Company died at the mine. From 1915 until 1917, the mine was leased to Tom McCormick, who worked the mine. During World War II, Groom Mine became surrounded by military activity, which continued into the 21st century.
